FBI counterterrorism officers are supposed to be experts in security, but it turns out even the experts can be blind when it comes to their own, um, business.
An FBI counterterrorism supervisor has become the subject of an internal bureau investigation after he spent a night drinking with a woman and woke up to find his firearm stolen from his hotel room, the Watertown Daily Times reported Thursday.
The agent, Robert Manson, was ripped off of a Glock.40-cal. Handgun, a $6,000 Rolex watch, and $600 in cash during a stay at the Westin in Charlotte, North Carolina, a hotel across the street from the Charlotte Convention Center where portions of the 2012 Democratic National Convention were held.
The stolen gun was a Glock 27, a police spokesman told Fox News.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said Manson was intoxicated but not harmed. FBI agents were in town for special training. After training, they went out, met some women they claimed were exotic dancers, and drank with them, the Charlotte Observer reports.
“Investigators determined the victim, Robert Manson, met a woman in the hotel bar the prior night and took her back to his hotel room. Mr. Manson identified himself as a special agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation,” the spokesman, Robert Tufano, told Fox.
Initial media reports indicate the gun has not been recovered and that the internal FBI probe is ongoing.
