Who can win the Race to Dubai, and what do they need this week?

What do Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Rose and Sergio Garcia need to do to win the Race to Dubai at this week's DP World Tour Championship?

Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Rose and Sergio Garcia are the three contenders for the Race to Dubai title as the season concludes this week, but what do they need to be crowned European No 1?

Fleetwood is the firm favourite to finish on top of the standings for the first time as he heads into the DP World Tour Championship 256,737 points ahead of Rose, but Garcia also has a legitimate chance to leapfrog the top two with a win at the Jumeirah Estates.

Tommy Fleetwood

A two-time winner on the European Tour this season, Fleetwood enjoyed a lead of over 1million points until seeing his advantage slashed by Rose after he won back-to-back titles in China and Turkey.

But he still has a commanding cushion, and Fleetwood simply needs to finish ahead of, or level with, his two closest rivals. Rose needs a minimum of a top-five finish, while Garcia requires a win to deny Fleetwood the title.

Justin Rose

The 2007 European No 1 obviously needs to finish ahead of Fleetwood, but only outright fifth or better will be enough. Outright second would see Rose crowned Race to Dubai champion if Fleetwood doesn’t win.

But the former US Open champion has been in this situation 10 years ago, when he won the season finale at Valderrama to pip Ernie Els and Padraig Harrington and top the Order of Merit.

Sergio Garcia

Only a victory in Dubai can propel the Masters champion to the top of the standings, but only if Fleetwood finishes worse than tied 11th and Rose is not in the top four on Sunday.

Garcia certainly has a genuine chance, and he is already a winner in the United Arab Emirates this year having claimed the Dubai Desert Classic title in early February.
