West Brom reject James McClean loan offer from Derby County

West Bromwich Albion have rejected an approach from Derby County to take winger James McClean on loan, Sky Sports News understands.

Rams boss Gary Rowett is keen to add a winger to his squad and wanted McClean to bring some attacking flair to Derby’s promotion push, but Albion have rebuffed the approach outright.

Alan Pardew sees 28-year-old McClean as a key member of the squad as they battle relegation.

SSN understands reports that Derby tabled a £6m bid for the Republic of Ireland international are wide of the mark.

McClean has made 23 appearances for West Brom this season and although 15 of those have been as a substitute, he has made five starts since Alan Pardew replaced Tony Pulis as manager.

West Brom, who sit 19th in the Premier League, travel to leaders Manchester City on Wednesday before a crucial clash with relegation rivals Southampton at the Hawthorns on Saturday.
