Fulham are beginning a short run of fixtures that will define their promotion chances, says captain Tom Cairney.
The midfielder was the subject of two bids – the second of which was £18m – from West Ham in the January transfer window, but has been part of an unbeaten 10-game spell after sticking at Craven Cottage.
Fulham have won eight of those matches, leaving them fifth in the Sky Bet Championship and just six points off the automatic promotion spots.

The club’s next five fixtures are all against sides, which includes Saturday’s Sky Live clash with Wolves, vying for at least a play-off place, though, and Cairney believes hopes of a Premier League return rest on how they fare against those teams.
“It’s huge, I think it defines the season,” Cairney said. “All those teams are above us or around us so it’s massive. It’s going to define what we’re going to do this season.
Fulham’s ‘season-defining’ fixtures:
- Bristol City (a) – Feb 21
- Wolves (h) – Feb 24
- Derby (a) – March 3
- Sheff U (h) – March 6
- Preston (a) – March 10
“It’s important that we haven’t got many in the physio room at the moment so I think we’re going to have a strong squad and we’re going to need it over the next couple of weeks.
“It’s a special run and we’ve really climbed the table. We’re in form at a great time, it’s just about maintaining it to the end of the season and we shouldn’t be far off.”
