Son of Dubawi goes for a song at Tattersalls

Sheikh Mohammed Obaid, who has seen his colours carried with great distinction by the likes of Postponed and Ajman Princess in recent years, went to 2.6million guineas to buy a son of Dubawi at Tattersalls on Tuesday.

The Sheikh owns the stallion but this particular offspring was consigned by Meon Valley Stud, a colt out of their mare Izzi Top.

Izzi Top won two Group Ones for John Gosden and the Clarehaven handler was keen to keep the family link but he lost out to Roger Varian.

Varian said: “There are some very nice Dubawis here and this horse is very nice – a strong horse and a stand-out so early in the sale.

“He looks as though he will carry a bit of speed.”

Godolphin’s self-imposed exile on buying yearlings of Coolmore stallions was ended earlier in the sales season but and there was further evidence of the new era when Gosden went to 800,000 guineas for a Galileo filly out of Fred Darling winner Maureen.
