Sol Bamba won the Sky Bet Championship Goal of the Month award for March
Cardiff City defender Sol Bamba is the Sky Bet Championship Goal of the Month winner for March, receiving 41 per cent of the public vote.
He said: “It’s always nice, obviously I’m happy for everyone that voted for me, it’s always good to win this sort of award. I think the touch was the difference, the touch to turn, and after that I just hit it as hard as I could and luckily enough it went in.
“The spirit hasn’t really been effected within the squad over the last week. We’re obviously disappointed because we go to every game and try to win it. I think the best thing we can do is react, it’s the reaction that shows whether you’re watching a good team or not.”
Lead Sky Bet EFL Goal of the Month judge and Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman said: “I was at this game commentating for Sky Sports and it was a superb goal from the Cardiff centre-back.
“His first touch to set up the strike was a touch Messi would have been proud of and then the strike powered into the bottom corner. It was a goal to bring Cardiff level when they were under the cosh and they went on to record a vital win.”
Bamba beat off competition from Millwall’s Ben Marshall and Reading’s Sone Aluko.
Sky Bet League One: Lewis Page, CHARLTON v Plymouth – March 24
Lewis Page won the Sky Bet League One Goal of the Month award for March
Charlton defender Page is the Sky Bet League One Goal of the Month winner for March, receiving 47 per cent of the public vote.
Page said: “It’s great to get the recognition up against some really strong opposition. It was very early on in the game and was my first game back at home in a long time so it was nice to start off with that.
“I brought it down and it just fell nicely so I just thought, ‘why not?’ and hit it. I remember seeing it just dipping underneath the bar because I thought it was going over at the time, but it just dipped and snuck in so I’m happy.”
Goodman said: “Lewis has had a really tough time of it with injuries since joining Charlton, so this goal would have been fantastic for his confidence.
“To score a goal of this quality just three minutes into his first Valley start for over a year shows the quality that he has, and Lee Bowyer will be delighted at the way he’s worked his way back into contention.”
Page beat off competition from Gillingham’s Lee Martin and Rochdale’s Steve Davies.
Sky Bet League Two: Perry Ng, Stevenage v CREWE – March 10
Perry Ng won the Sky Bet League Two Goal of the Month award for March
Crewe defender Ng is the Sky Bet League Two Goal of the Month winner for March, receiving 51 per cent of the public vote.
Ng said: “I’m not used to winning awards like this because I’m a defender, so it’s brilliant. We were 2-0 down away at Stevenage, which is a tough place to go.
“I won the ball high up the pitch, cut inside, and I had quite a lot of time so I just thought I’d whack one and luckily I caught it well and it went top corner with my left foot.
Goodman said: “This fantastic strike from the young right back is made doubly impressive when you consider that Perry struck this shot with his weaker foot and the strike was powerful enough to beat the keeper at his near post.
“The academy graduate kick started a terrific comeback for Crewe, and after the game thanked the academy staff for the shooting practice they’d done with him. It’s obviously paying off.”
