Ritson vs Hyland Jnr: Josh Kelly has emerged as one of the world’s hottest talents, says Eddie Hearn

Josh Kelly can prove himself as one of the world’s hottest prospects when he challenges for a Commonwealth title in just his seventh fight, says promoter Eddie Hearn.

The 24-year-old, nicknamed ‘Pretty Boy’, has made a supremely confident start to his professional career, defeating former IBF title holder Carlos Molina in March, and will face Commonwealth champion Kris George on Saturday, live on Sky Sports.

The lofty ambitions of Kelly and trainer Adam Booth have even surprised Hearn, who expects the Sunderland man to showcase his blistering speed against the Australian at the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle.

“I never expected that after six fights Josh would be WBA international champion and beat someone like Carlos Molina, but his progression has been driven by his performances and the belief of Adam Booth.

“This is a different type of test in George, a champion, someone that is tough, rugged and very hungry. He will try and make it a dogfight and take Josh into deep waters, but he is going to get hit by shots that he doesn’t see.

“PBK maybe the hottest prospect in world boxing right now and I’m looking forward to watching him soaking it all up on Saturday”

One the same bill, Lewis Ritson can win the British lightweight belt outright against Paul Hyland Jnr, around eight months after he first claimed the Lonsdale title.

“It’s one the most remarkable turnarounds I’ve seen in a career,” said Hearn.

“A year ago he was thinking about quitting the sport and looking for jobs, and now he is on the verge of winning the Lonsdale belt outright in front of 8,000 Geordies at the Metro Arena.

“He has to be smart here and keep his cool. Hyland can punch and is a very smart fighter, but if he can deal with him like he dealt with Barrett, Murray and Cardle, then you have to say he is ready for that next step.”

Lewis Ritson against Paul Hyland Jr and Josh Kelly versus Kris George is on Sky Sports Action from 7pm on Saturday night.
