#RevistaPredictor Matchday 25: Sevilla and Atletico Madrid feature

It’s a Sunday triple-header on the #RevistaPredictor, as we approach the two-thirds point of the season…

The next 10 days or so could have a big say in the destination of the much-coveted experts’ title on the Predictor, with three matchdays in La Liga – that’s if Kevin Keatings maintains or increases his lead in the overall standings. It’s a tricky trio of games we’ve got to look at this weekend…

There’s been a little slump from Villarreal, winless in five across all competitions and now out of the Europa League. They’ve dropped off Real Madrid in fourth, and instead they’re now chasing Sevilla in fifth and trying to fend off the supposedly smaller teams below them.

One of those is Getafe, who have won respect, if not many fans, for how they get results. Strong competitors is probably the nicest way of describing them.

Jose Bordalas’ well-drilled side have put together a six-game unbeaten run in La Liga, including a win at home to Celta Vigo on Monday and draws at Sevilla and Barcelona in their last couple of away games, so a trip to the Estadio de la Cerámica shouldn’t faze them.

Still, three of our pundits reckon Villarreal will win, with Kevin Keatings and myself going for a draw, and Pablo Fornals is a popular choice to break the deadlock.

MATCH 2 – VALENCIA v REAL SOCIEDAD La Liga Football

I tweeted a La Liga entertainment table the other day, which ranked teams by total goals scored and conceded. Real Sociedad were joint-top with Real Betis on 91 goals overall – and 21 of those have come in the last four games.

They’ve at least started winning after a poor run and poor campaign overall for Eusebio and co. – but that’s only been at home to out-of-form Deportivo and Levante last time out.

La Real haven’t won away in La Liga since October, and opponents Valencia seem to have got a second wind after lucky back-to-back victories. That’s reflected in the forecasts from our merry band of five, with everyone going for a home victory.

Simone Zaza and captain Dani Parejo are the main picks for first goalscorer amongst the so-called experts, while David Phillips has gone for Rodrigo Moreno.

MATCH 3 – SEVILLA v ATLÉTICO MADRID

European commitments have dominated this week, with Sevilla controlling long periods of their game with Manchester United in the Champions League and Atlético managing to rest players as they easily saw out their Europa League last-32 tie with Copenhagen. Question is, who will be the leggier and suffer some sort of hangover?

It’s a meeting between two teams in decent form. Sevilla now seem settled under Vincenzo Montella, bouncing back from their pasting at Eibar by qualifying for the Copa del Rey final and securing narrow victories over Girona and Las Palmas, while Atlético have won six of their last seven in La Liga, including the last four and only conceded one goal in that time.

Remember also that Sevilla knocked Atleti out of the Copa, winning both legs of their quarter-final, but no-one is backing them here. And no-one has gone for many goals either – Rob and Jon think it’ll be a 1-1 draw, while Messrs Keatings and Phillips reckon Diego Simeone’s side will edge the result.

A couple of first goalscorers could make all the difference in the overall table, despite Kevin enjoying a decent lead at present.
