Royal Intervention broke her maiden tag in impressive style after running out a decisive winner of the Betway Empress Fillies’ Stakes at Newmarket.

Having filled the runner-up spot on her debut at Lingfield, the daughter of Exceed And Excel moved through the gears in impressive style to give trainer Ed Walker his first winner of the six-furlong Listed prize.

Settling nicely in front under Gerald Mosse, the 9-1 shot found plenty when meeting the rising ground, before crossing the line four and a half lengths clear of Strings Of Life.

Simon Marsh, racing manager to the winning connections, said: “She is a very nice filly.

“She hit the rising ground and off she went. She did it well in front and settled nicely in front.

“Gerald said to leave her at six for now. There are plenty of options. Ed Walker will make those decisions and we will discuss it with him.”

He added: “She is from a lovely family and has got a lovely pedigree. She has now got black type and speed so she is exciting.”
