Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson made a playing comeback for fourth-tier Welsh club Caerau on Wednesday
Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson made his football comeback on Wednesday, playing for fourth-tier Welsh club Caerau.
The former Arsenal and England midfielder played 65 minutes in the rearranged clash against Pontyclun, after accepting an invitation by Caerau club secretary Dai Hooper, helping the home side to a 3-2 lead before the match ended in an abandonment due to a floodlight failure.
Merson, who last played in a one-off appearance for Welshpool Town in 2012, confirmed he will continue to play for his new side in midweek fixtures but will not feature at weekends due to his Soccer Saturday commitments, a job which he described as “the second best job in the world bar playing football”.
Caerau are 12th in the 16-team league after securing two wins from their opening six league fixtures.
