The 21-year-old followed his stunning second-round 65 with a four-under 67 at Le Golf National to get to 10 under and retain his overnight advantage over playing partner Wood.
Garcia fired a round-of-the-day 64 to move within three of the lead, with Jon Rahm a further stroke adrift after finishing his third-round 68 with back-to-back birdies.
“It was a bit of a shaky start, but I hit some good shots and felt better and better over the round,” Kinhult told Sky Sports. “It’s a hard golf course, but I just tried to stay patient.”
