The New York Giants expect Odell Beckham Jr to be cleared for a return from injury soon, despite being excused from training on Tuesday.
Beckham Jr played in just four games last season, catching 25 passes for 302 yards and three touchdowns before suffering a season-ending ankle injury.
The 25-year-old is entering the final year of his rookie contract and it is understood the Giants held talks with the Los Angeles Rams over a potential trade.
However, Giants head coach Pat Shurmur insists the three-time Pro Bowler is eager to rejoin his current team-mates.
“Odell is looking forward to getting out here. He’s getting pretty close to being fully cleared,” said Shurmur.
Beckham and cornerback Janoris Jenkins were among veterans who weren’t present at the start of workouts on Tuesday.
Shurmur said the players informed the Giants in advance of their expected absence and are excused from the non-mandatory workout.
