Was Ayrton Senna's 1988 Monaco Pole Lap the greatest in F1 history? Watch a special feature during our Qualifying coverage from 1pm Saturday on Sky Sports F1.
It remains the qualifying lap most associated with Ayrton Senna and the Monaco GP and, 30 years on, Sky Sports F1 is revisiting one of the sport’s most legendary performances in the build-up to this weekend’s showpiece race.
Triple world champion Senna was the undisputed master of Monaco, winning a record six times, and it was his 1988 pole-position lap which stands as the best example of that unmatched excellence.
It wasn’t just pole position on the track where it matters more than any other, it was the great Brazilian’s margin of superiority over McLaren team-mate and fellow F1 legend Alain Prost – an astonishing 1.427 seconds, in the same car.
And it’s that very car – the legendary Honda-powered MP4/4 – that Sky F1 has had the privilege to be given access to as Martin Brundle and Damon Hill, who both raced against Senna, revisit that extraordinary 1988 Monaco pole lap.
