Mark Wood is to have a scan on his left ankle after he was forced to miss the opening one-day international against New Zealand.
The Durham seam bowler has had three operations on the ankle and, after suffering soreness, it was decided not to risk him for Sunday’s game in Hamilton, which the home side won by three wickets.
Wood missed the whole of England’s Ashes defeat over the winter but returned to action for the ODI series win over Australia and the Trans-Tasman Tri-Series with Australia and New Zealand.

He has also been named in the squad for the upcoming two-Test series in New Zealand and will be assessed ahead of Wednesday’s second ODI in Mount Maunganui.
“It’s not a serious concern at the moment,” said England captain Eoin Morgan.
“He’s picked up a soreness the last couple of days and he wasn’t worth the risk today [Sunday].
“We’ll see how he’s assessed over the next 24 hours to see whether he will participate in the next game or we build a plan as to when he can come back.”
