Manchester City are close to agreeing a deal to sign Jack Harrison from sister club New York City, Sky Sports News understands.
The England U21 winger landed in the UK on Tuesday and the two clubs are hopeful of confirming the transfer for around £4m on Tuesday afternoon.
Sky Sports News understands the 21-year-old will then be loaned to Middlesbrough for the rest of the season.
Harrison impressed since breaking through in the MLS and has also been of interest to Stoke City in the January window.
Harrison was born in Stoke and went to the Manchester United academy before moving to America with his parents when he was 14.
Stoke were keen to add him to Paul Lambert’s squad but were not prepared to pay New York’s asking fee for a young player untested in the Premier League.
Harrison is not the only midfielder on Stoke’s radar; the club are in advanced talks with Galatasaray over the £15m purchase of Senegal midfielder Badou Ndiaye.
