Les Kiss has left his post as Ulster director of rugby with immediate effect after an underperforming season.
The Australian has paid the price for Ulster’s failure to qualify from their Champions Cup pool, while they are 13 points behind Conference B leaders Scarlets in the Guinness PRO14.
Kiss was appointed as Ulster rugby director in 2015, having previously worked as Ireland defence coach.
An Ulster statement read: “Ulster Rugby can confirm that Les Kiss will be leaving his post as director of rugby by mutual consent, effective immediately.
“Ulster Rugby would like to thank Les for his commitment and wish him well in his future career.
“Head coach Jono Gibbes will assume responsibility for all coaching matters and will lead the current coaching team of Dwayne Peel, Aaron Dundon and Niall Malone.
“A review will be conducted to ascertain if additional coaching expertise is required.
“Operations Director Bryn Cunningham will manage the off-field operations of the professional team.”
Ulster’s next fixture is at home to the winless Southern Kings in the PRO14 on February 9.
