Kelly vs George: Josh Kelly wants Commonwealth champion Kris George to ‘come and fight’

Josh 'Pretty Boy' Kelly headlines in front of his hometown fans this Saturday. Coverage starts at 7pm on Sky Sports Action.

Josh Kelly urged Kris George to show “some heart” as he does not want the champion to “run away” from a Commonwealth title battle.

The 24-year-old welterweight was left frustrated after a points win over Carlos Molina and ‘Pretty Boy’ wants to put on a show at the Metro Radio Arena, Newcastle, live on Sky Sports.

Kelly (6-0-KO4) will be in just his seventh professional fight and although he admits Australian George (14-1-KO8) is likely to be his toughest opponent so far, is ready to meet the champion head-on.

“In a sense it is the biggest step up for, because it’s a 12-rounder and he’s probably the most game opponent to date,” he exclusively told Sky Sports.

“To be fair though, I think that will make it a lot easier for me because when they run away or don’t come to fight it’s a lot harder. If he comes to fight it’s going to be a nice night to enjoy for me and all of us.

“It seems they never come out the way you’ve seen them on tape. We took on Molina but I just want to show people what I’ve got, so I want someone to come and try and get at me.

1:40 Josh Kelly is looking forward to fighting in front of his home fans in Newcastle on the 16 June after outpointing Carlos Molina.

“If Kris George wants to get at me and get into a fight, that is going to be the end of a nice night.”

Kelly’s title challenge is chief support to local lad Lewis Ritson defending his British lightweight title against Paul Hyland Jnr.

The Sunderland star topped the bill on a NXTGEN bill at the Walker Activity Dome, in June 2017, and can’t wait to step up a level.

“The north-east crowd is going to be bouncing up there, as it always is,” he said.

“It’s always boncing up there, if it’s a boxing night or not, so it’s going to be jam-packed, roudy and loud, so get ready for that.

“You are going to see the usual from me. I am going to come out and do what I do, try and put on a show for these fans.”

Josh Kelly versus Kris George and Lewis Ritson against Paul Hyland Jr, is on Sky Sports Action from 7pm on Saturday night.
