Kagiso Rabada punished after Shikhar Dhawan send-off

South Africa's Kagiso Rabada gave Shikhar Dhawan a send off, waving at the batsman and then pointing towards the pavilion after dismissing him in the fifth ODI against India.

South Africa seamer Kagiso Rabada has been fined and slapped with one demerit point after giving India’s Shikhar Dhawan a send-off during Tuesday’s fifth ODI in Port Elizabeth.

Rabada waved at Dhawan, pointed at the pavilion and seemed to swear after having the opener caught in the deep at St George’s Park and has now lost 15 per cent of his match fee.

The seamer’s demerit point takes his overall total to five, with each point staying on a player’s record for a period of 24 months.

Four demerit points warrant a first suspension, which Rabada received on South Africa’s tour of England in 2017 when he was banned for the second Test at Trent Bridge.

Rabada totted up his fourth demerit point for swearing in the first Test at Lord’s, having picked up an initial three in February 2017 in an ODI against Sri Lanka.

The paceman will receive a heftier penalty if he reaches eight demerit points before the second week of February 2019 – a ban of two Tests, or one Test and two ODIs/T20Is, or four ODIs/T20Is, whichever comes first.
