Jermell Charlo is open to filling the void left by Saul Alvarez and take on middleweight supremo Gennady Golovkin.
The WBC super-welterweight champion defends his title against Austin Trout in Los Angeles on June 9, but is the latest to put his name into the mix following the collapse of a return fight between ‘Canelo’ and ‘GGG’.

Britain’s WBO world champion Billy Joe Saunders has been linked with facing Golovkin, but with his twin brother Jermall already up at 154lbs, Jermell is the latest to put his name into the middleweight mix.
“I don’t think that whenever the WBC reaches out about a fight that they’re doing it just to play around,” he said.
“This sport is serious. We would love to be a part of a GGG fight. We’re tired of hearing the media say to put the Charlo’s in there with better competition.
“I’ve heard that every fight. As long as I’m winning fights and I’m entertaining the fans, that’s what I’m going to do.”
Charlo, who trains alongside and spars with Errol Spence Jr, will be making the third defence of his title against Trout.
Trout will be looking to make it third time lucky on the same bill that sees Leo Santa Cruz and Abner Mares rematch, having failed with world-title attempts against Jermall Charlo and Jarrett Hurd in his last two outings.
