Burnley defender James Tarkowski has withdrawn from England’s standby list for the World Cup to have hernia surgery.
Sky Sources understand England manager Gareth Southgate has yet to decide whether to call up further cover for Tarkowski on his standby list.
Southgate has until June 4 to give his final squad of 23 players to FIFA for the World Cup Finals in Russia.
The 28-year-old defender, who earned his first England cap in March, was named on Southgate’s five-man standby list and had been training with the national team.
But following assessment it has been agreed that Tarkowski requires surgery on his hernia and he will not play any part at the World Cup.
A statement from Burnley said the former Brentford centre-back is expected to be fit for pre-season training when it begins in early July.
