Zlatan Ibrahimovic came off the bench to score a stunning equaliser on his debut for La Galaxy against LA FC
Many were taken aback as Zlatan Ibrahimovic announced his arrival in the MLS with a wondergoal to help LA Galaxy win the first cross-city derby with Los Angeles FC – but not Thierry Henry.
The Sky Sports pundit told Super Sunday he had been left impressed by the Swedish striker’s sensational half-volley to pull Galaxy level from 3-0 down six minutes after he came on, but that it was a consequence of his self-confidence and ability.
“It’s Zlatan being Zlatan,” he said. “That invites him to do what he did. He’s not really pacy, he backs himself on his technique and he’s got confidence.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic made his LA Galaxy debut in remarkable fashion with a 40-yard equaliser and a stoppage-time winner in a stunning 4-3 win over Los Angeles FC.
“Someone texted me straight away, I went to check the goal and I was like ‘yeah, that’s just Zlatan.’ I’m not trying to play it down, it’s outstanding and amazing, but that’s just Zlatan. It’s just him – he’s made for that.
“The first ever derby, who comes off the bench? That goal, he’s the type of player who has the ability, wherever the ball is, he will back himself to score.
“We’ve seen it so many times, the bicycle kick against England, how many times he’s jumped in the air and scored with the back of his foot, he has that ability.”
