The Gennady Golovkin vs Canelo Alvarez rematch on May 5 will be held at The T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Golovkin (37-0-1, 33 KOs) and Alvarez (49-1-2, 34 KOs) produced a controversial draw in their previous world middleweight title bout on September 16, and the pair are now set to return to the same venue on the Mexican national holiday of Cinco de Mayo for the WBA (Super), WBC, IBF, IBO, The Ring and vacant lineal middleweight titles.
Golovkin insists he deserved to win the previous title fight and has vowed to set the record straight in the eagerly anticipated rematch.
“It feels right that the rematch returns to the scene of the crime,” said Golovkin. “This time there will be no drama with a decision.
“I won the first fight and left the ring as world champion wearing all the belts. And I am going to win the second fight. It is going to be a record fight and a golden night for me and boxing at T-Mobile Arena.”
Alvarez is looking forward to returning to the same venue at which he defeated both Amir Kahn and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
“I am happy to return for the fourth time at T-Mobile Arena for this historic rematch against [Gennady] Golovkin,” said Canelo.
“I opened the doors of this place to the world of boxing, and it has become my favorite venue. This is where the fight started, and this is where I’ll end it by doing what I and my fans most desire: knocking him out.”
