Feliciano Lopez demonstrated some incredible spin to win a rally against Kei Nishikori in Rome.
Feliciano Lopez might have lost to Kei Nishikori in the Italian Open first round, but the Spanish veteran brought the Foro Italico crowds to rapturous applause with an incredible side-spin slice volley winner.
Nishikori, back on the comeback trail after his run to the Monte-Carlo Masters final last month, recorded a determined 7-6(7-5) 6-4 victory against his 36-year-old opponent to progress to the second round.
The Japanese player suffered a five-month injury lay-off last season and suffered a first-round defeat at the Madrid Open last week but the two-time French Open quarter-finalist is well adept on the red dirt.
Despite extending his stay in the Italian capital Nishikori was helpless to react to a moment of ingenuity from Lopez.
