Italy

Manchester United have seen a £57m bid for Milan Skriniar rejected by Inter Milan. Jose Mourinho is keen to bolster his defensive options, but it remains to be seen if United return with a higher bid for the 23-year-old, who has also attracted interest from Barcelona. (Gazzetta dello Sport)

Manchester City are finally set to seal the signing of Napoli midfielder Jorginho. The Serie A club’s owner, Aurelio De Laurentiis, said that while the clubs have not yet found an agreement, they are getting closer. The deal hinged on Napoli securing a replacement and, in Real Betis’ Fabian Ruiz, they have done so, paving the way for Jorginho to join the Premier League champions. (Corriere dello Sport)

West Ham are interested in Juventus midfielder Stefano Sturaro. The 25-year-old struggled to nail down a place in the first-team under Max Allegri last season and is believed to be available for around £20m. Spain

Marcelo will captain Brazil in their World Cup opener against Switzerland. Head coach Tite has rotated the armband since taking charge in 2016, following Neymar’s decision to renounce the captaincy, but the Real Madrid full-back has earned the honour of leading his country out for their first game in Russia. Spain fans want David de Gea dropped from the starting line-up in favour of Kepa Arrizabalaga. De Gea made a mistake in Spain’s 3-3 draw with Portugal on Friday night, letting a Cristiano Ronaldo shot slip through his grasp. It follows another mistake in a pre-tournament friendly against Switzerland and, in a poll asking who should start Spain’s second group game against Iran, Kepa earned 49.8%, with the Manchester United stopper receiving 38.4%. Gareth Bale wants to speak with new Real Madrid manager Julen Lopetegui before making a decision on his future. The Wales international opened the door to a potential departure from the Bernabeu after starring in their Champions League final win over Liverpool. Barcelona transfer target Aleksandr Golovin has responded to rumours linking him with a move to the Camp Nou. The 22-year-old CSKA Moscow playmaker shone in Russia’s 5-0 defeat of Saudi Arabia on Thursday, scoring a wonderful free-kick and assisting two other goals, and has admitted to being flattered by interest from the Catalan giants. “The press can say what they want about teams and players, but I’m still aware of the rumours about Barcelona, it’s impossible not to know them,” Golovin said.
