The January transfer window may only just have closed but Europe’s biggest clubs are already plotting their summer moves with a World Cup to negotiate around.
Our friends at Football Whispers have scoured the European media to round-up the latest transfer news.
Juventus are planning more talks with the representatives of Liverpool’s Emre Can. The German midfielder is out of contract at the end of the season and has been a Juventus transfer target since last summer. However, recent reports have linked Can with a return to Bayern Munich. Inter Milan are being forced to target players who are out of contract this summer as they attempt to avoid FFP sanctions for their heavy spending over recent years. Lazio centre-back Stefan de Vrij is a target along with Juventus’ versatile midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah. (Calciomercato)
Barcelona are still working on a deal to bring one-time Manchester United transfer target Antoine Griezmann to the Nou Camp. The champions-elect have even reserved the No 7 shirt for him, left vacant since the departure of Arda Turan. The La Liga side want to sign the Atletico Madrid forward and Brazilian midfielder Arthur to complete their next rebuilding phase and secure their long-term future as a dominant force in Europe. (AS)
Atletico Madrid are looking at Villarreal winger Samu Castillejo, rumoured to be an Arsenal transfer target in the past, to help fill the void left by the departures of Yannick Carrasco and Nicolas Gaitan. The pair moved to Chinese Super League side Dalian Yifang earlier this week after failing to gain a spot in Diego Simeone’s starting XI. Castillejo is believed to have a €20m release clause in his current deal. (AS)
Sources close to Neymar have claimed that the Brazil international will have surgery on his fractured metatarsal to maximise his chances of being fit for the World Cup, but it may result in his missing the rest of the season for Paris Saint-Germain. (AS)
However, PSG coach Unai Emery contradicts these reports and revealed there won’t be any surgery and says Neymar could still feature in the Champions League second-leg match with Real Madrid. (Mundo Deportivo)
Robert Lewandowski is contemplating a move away from the Allianz Arena in an attempt to fulfil his lifelong dream of winning the Champions League. The Bayern Munich forward believes a move to Real Madrid gives him the best chance of doing that. (SportBild)
Willy Sagnol coached Bordeaux for just shy of two seasons and was the man responsible for bringing Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Malcom to Europe. The former Bayern Munich full-back has spoken about links suggesting the German champions could make a move for the Brazilian: “I paid €5m for an 18-year-old. From today’s perspective, this is a real bargain. And his development is not over yet. He’s more of a player like Arjen Robben than Franck Ribery. He is not that fast, but has a super technique.” (SportBild)
Paris Saint-Germain have been told to act quickly if they want to sign Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. Former Lazio player Ousmane Dabo said: “If PSG wants him, it is now, not when they feel as though they are in a top club.” Manchester United are another team thought to be interested in the 23-year-old with Jose Mourinho not against letting Paul Pogba leave.
