Eugenie Bouchard’s hopes qualifying for the French Open ended by injury

Eugenie Bouchard’s hopes of reaching the main draw of this year’s French Open were ended by injury in qualifying.

Former Wimbledon finalist Bouchard retired from her match against Dalila Jakuopovic of Slovenia trailing 6-0 2-1.

Meanwhile, 2010 Roland Garros champion Francesca Schiavone remains on course after overcoming Canadian Carol Zhao 6-4 3-6 6-3.

Britain’s Gabriella Taylor also booked her place in the second round, beating China’s Lu Jing-Jing 7-5 6-0, but compatriot Katie Boulter lost 7-6 (7-5) 7-5 to Colombian Mariana Duque-Marino.

In the men’s event, British No 5 Jay Clarke was also beaten losing in straight sets to Bernard Tomic.

Australian Tomic, who is looking to qualify for the tournament for the eighth successive year, took little over an hour to complete a 6-3 6-1 success over 19-year-old Clarke.
