Athletic Bilbao have appointed former Sevilla boss Eduardo Berizzo as their new head coach.
Berizzo joins Bilbao on a one-year contract and will remain with the Basque club until June 2019.
The 48-year-old was sacked by Sevilla in December after a run of poor results in La Liga. The Argentinian had only recently returned to work following an operation to treat prostate cancer.
Berizzo began his managerial career at Argentinian club Estudiantes before moving to Chilean side O’Higgins in 2011.
After moving to Europe he took charge of Celta Vigo in 2014 following the departure of Luis Enrique to Barcelona.
Berizzo enjoyed a three-year spell in charge of the Galicians before he was appointed as Jorge Sampaoli’s replacement at Sevilla.
However, he lasted less than six months at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan before being sacked by the club.
