David Goffin forced to retire in Rotterdam after ball hits his eye

David Goffin is forced to retire from his semi-final against Grigor Dimitrov in the Rotterdam Open after the ball ricochets off his racket into his eye.

David Goffin was was forced to retire during his semi-final match against Grigor Dimitrov at the ABN Amro World Tennis Tournament after being hit in the eye by a ball.

After losing the first set 6-3 and trailing 1-0 in the second, Goffin was reaching for a powerful forehand from Dimitrov when the ball ricocheted off the frame of his racket and struck him in the eye. Click on the video above to see the freak injury.

The number-four seeded Belgian left the court for treatment but was unable to return to continue the match, handing Bulgarian number two seed Dimitrov a place in Sunday’s final.
