Daryl Gurney stuck a 167 on the bullseye during his Premier League draw with Michael Smith

Daryl Gurney struck an amazing 167 checkout on the bullseye during his match against Michael Smith

Daryl Gurney pulled out all the stops with some mammoth checkouts but was still held to a draw in a Premier League thriller against Michael Smith in Birmingham.

The Northern Irishman needed at least a draw to keep his top four hopes alive and produced checkouts of 147 and 167 in the 6-6 extravaganza.

He found himself 3-1 down as his opponent Michael Smith started well but Gurney kept himself in the game with a 147 checkout, and three legs later took out a stunning 167 to level the game at 4-4.

Gurney also landed an impressive 147 finish in the 6-6 draw

The pressure was on Smith, who trailed 6-5 going into the final leg of the match, but the St Helens thrower held his nerve to deny Gurney a crucial two points by taking out 81 on the bull.
