Colombia are big World Cup threat to England, says Dennis Wise

James Rodriguez and Radamel Falcao have the skills to trouble England, says Dennis Wise

Colombia have the quality to derail England’s World Cup hopes, says Dennis Wise.

Gareth Southgate side face the South Americans in the last 16 on Tuesday and after Spain’s surprise exit to Russia, Wise says Colombia are a team to be wary of, but the former England international believes England are the best team left in their side of the draw.

Colombia lost 2-1 to Japan in their opening Group H game, but wins against Poland and Senegal secured qualification and, speaking to Sky Sports News, Wise said: “I look at the teams left and I think Colombia is the team I would be most worried about if I am being honest.

“They have good potential there, good quality. They have Juan Cuadrado, they have James Rodriguez, who is a wonderful player, and Radamel Falcao is another one.

“They are a team who didn’t start very well against Japan but that was because they had someone sent off after three minutes.

“But after that, they have grown and grown. If we can get past this Colombian team then I think we will have a wonderful chance to get all the way to the semi-final at least.”
