Amateur misses Tour cut after carding 56-over in two rounds

Amateur Julio Bell failed to make the most of his sponsor’s invite to the Club Colombia Championship, as he missed the cut in embarrassing fashion at the Tour event.

The 52-year-old only managed to register four pars during his 36 holes at Country Club de Bogota, hacking his way to scores of 93 and 105 to miss the cut on a staggering 56-over-par.

Bell defended his place in the field, posting on Instagram before later deleting it: “Four years of work in golf and there is still a long way to go.

The Colombian, a former amateur boxer, was 26 shots off the pace after his opening round and then kicked off his second round with three consecutive double-bogeys.

Back-to-back double-bogeys from the sixth were followed by a quadruple-bogey at the ninth to close a front-nine 50, with worse to follow after the turn.

Four more double-bogeys, three triple-bogeys and one quadruple-bogey set Bell on his way finishing the day on 34-over, before being disqualified from the event for reportedly not signing his card.
