Alize Cornet cleared of doping charge by independent tribunal

Alize Cornet has escaped a possible ban for missing three doping tests, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) confirmed on Tuesday.

The former top-20 player will now be able to play in the Strasbourg tournament next week and the French Open, which starts on May 27.

The decision was made because a doping control officer “did not satisfy all of the requirements” in trying to locate 28-year-old Cornet for what originally was considered a third missed out-of-competition drug test in a 12-month span which is considered a doping offence.

Cornet has has been ranked as high as No 11, in 2009, and has currently dropped down to No 32. She has won five WTA titles during her career.
